Next year marks seventy five years since Mary Meyer began producing toys at her kitchen table for her husband Hans to sell. The toys were so well accepted they decided to build a business. Their business goals were straightforward; sell products of extraordinary design and outstanding quality, all the while keeping an eye on customer service and value. Thirty years later in 1963, Mary¹s son Walter, made a ³stick horse² for his two-year-old son Steven, who liked to spend many hours each day dress up as a cowboy. When Walter saw how much Steven enjoyed playing with the toy horse, he made stick horses for his other five children. Stick Horses were introduced into the product line the following year.Fast-forward forty five years to the present. Four of Walter¹s son¹s (Mary¹s grandson¹s) run the business and the stick horses have been chosen by the Toy Industry Association (for their centennial celebration) as one of their ³Toys of the Century². The Mary Meyer Corporation is still a family-owned and operated company located in the Green Mountains of Vermont. Behind every product at Mary Meyer there is the Meyer family. Today the third generation of the Meyer family makes toys that incorporate the quality and safety they require for their own children - all 17 of them!
